A CVS customer suing the drugstore chain after allegedly being labeled "Ching Chong Lee" on her receipt.
Hyun Lee, a 37-year-old of Korean descent, noticed the racial slur when picking up photos at a CVS in Egg Harbor, N.J., the CBS station in New York reported.
When she complained to customer relations, she was told the employee would be "counseled and trained."
"'Ching Chong' is a very pejorative, racial slur meant for Asians. That is not her name," Lee's attorney, Susan Chana Lask, told 1010 WINS. "She was very distressed."
Lee is seeking $1 million in a federal discrimination lawsuit against CVS and the unnamed cashier, according to Business Insider.
CVS issued the following statement: "CVS/Pharmacy is committed to treating all of our customers with dignity and respect and we have a firm non-discrimination policy. We take this matter very seriously as the allegations in the complaint describe behavior that is unacceptable and not in keeping with our values or our policies. We are looking into this matter but cannot comment further due to the pending litigation."
Lee said the cashier should have been fired immediately and CVS should have apologized.
