Coeur d'Alene and Kamiah both battled for state titles in football (ID), while Cusick and Touchet met in the 1B state quarters (WA), and state playoffs continued in boys and girls soccer (WA).
Madison 37, Coeur d'Alene 30 - After trailing 27-7 in the third quarter, the Vikings battled back to within seven points of the Bobcats, but their comeback and a quest at a 3rd straight 5A state title came up short at Holt Arena on Friday.
Kamiah 30, Butte County 20 - Trailing 20-16 mid-way through the fourth, Eric Hill gave Kamiah the lead for good with a 71-yd touchdown. Kevin Hill later added a touchdown on the ground to ice it for the Kubs, who captured the Milk Bowl with a 30-20 win.
Cusick 44, Touchet 38 - Derrick Bluff broke a 38-38 tie with a TD run as time expired to give Cusick a thrilling win over Touchet, and a spot in the 1B semi-finals (WA). Touchet overcame a 32-16 halftime deficit, and had a chance to take the lead in the final minute but Cusick forced a turnover, setting up Bluff's game-winner.
Liberty Christian 70, Lacrosse/Washtucna 8 - Liberty Christian had no problems with Lac/Wash, winning 70-8 in the 1B quarter-finals. Liberty Christian will face Cusick in the 1B semi-finals.
Mt. Spokane 2, Holy Names 0 (GIRLS) - Mt. Spokane's perfect season will continue on to the 3A state championship game after the Wildcats beat Holy Names 2-0 in Friday's semi-final. Mt. Spokane (20-0) will face Columbia River for the state title on Saturday at 2 pm.
Northwest Christian 5, Mount Vernon Christian 0 (BOYS) - Northwest Christian will play for the 2B/1B state title after beating Mount Vernon Christian 5-0 in Friday's semi-final.
St. George's 1, Providence Classical 0 (OT - BOYS) - It took overtime to decide the other half of the 2B/1B semi-finals, but Erik Muelheims got the job done for the Dragons as St. George's advances to the state finals with a 1-0 win over Providence Classical. St. George's will face NW Christian in the finals. It will be the fourth meeting between the two teams. St. George's won the first three match-ups by a total of four goals.
