Post Falls couple sentenced for death of 2-year-old foster child
A Post Falls couple has been sentenced to three months for their involvement in the death of 2-year-old foster child Karina Moore.
Moore died in 2009 from blunt force trauma when Amber and Jeremy Clark say she fell down a flight of stairs. Her death was ruled a homicide, but in 2013 prosecutors dropped the most serious charges of felony injury to a child and concealing evidence of child abuse when the couple plead guilty to perjury.
In court the judge says while Moore's death was ruled a homicide, there is evidence from other doctors to support the couple's claims that it was an accident.
Moore's family was in court Wednesday, including her biological mother Samantha Richardson.
"We took the plea deal they offered in the hopes justice would somehow be served, and it wasn't at all," she said.
In addition to the three months jail time Amber and Jeremy Clark will serve 300 hours of community service and two years probation.
Samantha Richardson also has a wrongful death lawsuit pending with the state of Idaho, expected to begin in May.
