Ore. fire evacuations: Some residents allowed back

Published On: Aug 02 2013 02:50:37 PM CDT
PORTLAND, Ore. -

Some residents who left homes threatened by the biggest of the wildfires burning in southwestern Oregon have been allowed to return.

Authorities say residents of about 105 houses got evacuation advisories last weekend after lightning touched off the Douglas Complex fires near Glendale in southern Douglas County.

On Thursday night, residents of about 45 were told they could return -- but they should be on alert to move again if the fire changes.

Fire team spokesman Dave Wells says the decision reflects a slight increase in the lines firefighters have established against the group of fires reported Friday at more than 44 square miles, or more than 28,000 acres. The containment estimate is 9 percent, up two percentage points from the day before.
