Ada County investigating thefts from rail cars

Boise, ID -

Officials in southwestern Idaho are searching for thieves who took more than $100,000 worth of equipment from Union Pacific railroad cars parked east of Boise.

The Ada County sheriff's office says the thefts happened sometime between September and Oct. 5. Detectives say 140 truck batteries, 112 condenser refrigeration units and copper piping were removed from the cars. The thieves also stole hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel.

Of the 300 cars parked on the tracks, thieves damaged at least 113.

Officials say whoever took the equipment had to use a large truck and likely made several trips to where the cars were parked.
