It's Cyber Monday, but it looks like many people just couldn't wait until today to start buying online. New figures from comScore, an internet analytics firm, show shoppers in the U.S. spent more than $1 Billion online on Black Friday.
That's up 26-percent compared to last year and marks a new record. comScore reports more than 57 million Americans visited online retail sites on Black Friday. The most visited site was Amazon, followed by Walmart, Best Buy, Target and Apple.
With online sales in the billions this weekend, its easy to understand why more small businesses in Spokane are getting in on the Cyber Monday craze.
"You've gotta be where your customers are going to be spending money and their time and if it's become a part of their normal course of shopping on Monday is online then you've gotta be there and offer that same deal," Josh Wade of the Nectar Tasting Room said.
"We're offering about 45-percent off our annual club membership, which gives people savings on wine, complimentary wine tasting, discount on events," Wade said.
The membership at Nectar Tasting Room is normally $75; its now just $40. That deal is being offered through the end of the month.
Just across the street at Auntie's Bookstore you can get 15-percent off of your online order.
"It's kinda fun and we have had our website for several years now but each year more people get involved and especially on a day like this … I was just upstairs processing a whole mess of orders," Linda Bond with Auntie's Bookstore said.
At Strong Solutions, tucked away along Sprague Avenue, multiple Cyber Monday deals are being advertised.
"We're taking the cyber part of Cyber Monday and offering a couple of deals to keep business local here in Spokane," Jack Strong of Strong Solutions said.
The deals include 50-percent off a memory upgrade.
"We've had a handful of folks in it's early in the day so far but we're hoping to see 20 or 30 people through the door," Strong added.
For many small businesses offering Cyber Monday deals, those deals don't end Monday night. They're extending the deals for another day or even through the end of the month so it's worth it to call and check.
