Parking pass pilot program unveiled in downtown Spokane

For some downtown Spokane residents, parking just got a whole lot easier.
The city recently started a three month pilot parking program at eight downtown apartment buildings. Five complexes are run by Wells and Company and the other three from the Spokane Housing Authority.
"It's always a mad scramble to make sure I have enough change because I never think it through," Karen Rogers, who lives downtown, said.
But for downtown residents like Rogers, the city is hoping to ease the troubles of downtown parking.
"This is just another example of us responding to questions and suggestions from citizens," Jan Quintrall with the City of Spokane said.
Quintrall received several calls from downtown apartment complexes asking for help to deal with the high cost of parking.
"So we thought okay, let's give this a try. It's a pilot program and it just kicked off November 1st, it's 8 apartment buildings in west downtown," Quintrall said.
You can buy the parking pass for just $25 dollars a month through your landlord. The pass allows you to park in any 10-hour parking meter, no matter what time of day it is.
"The people at the apartment complexes in downtown said wow we have been talking about this for 15 years," Quintrall said.
Rogers thinks she'll get a parking pass now. With the snowy winter months on the way, Karen's glad she won't have to worry about getting a pesky parking ticket.
"If you have a decal on your window, you just don't have to worry about it and then if you forget and don't have change or sleep in on Saturday mornings, you are covered. It just seems like a good value," Rogers said.
