EVERETT, Wash. -

A 27-year-old Lynnwood, Wash., woman accused of putting her 6-year-old son's hands on a hot stove to punish him has been arrested for investigation of domestic violence assault.

The Daily Herald reports that the boy initially refused to answer questions from a counselor and a school nurse about the burn marks. He reportedly later told a health clinic worker that he had stolen a friend's iPod and his mother put his hands on the stovetop when she learned about it.

According to court papers, the mother initially told investigators that her son might have tried to toast marshmallows on the stove when she was sleeping or hurt his hands on the monkey bars at school. She later refused to answer questions on the advice of her lawyer.

The newspaper didn't identify the woman. Her bail was set at $25,000 Thursday at an Everett District Court hearing.

Caseworkers have removed the boy and a 3-year-old brother from their mother's apartment.
