Homicide victim found in West Central alley

A man was found shot to death and run over in a West Central Spokane alley Friday morning, but detectives think that another crime was committed prior to his killing.
The victim's body was found in an alley near the intersection of Bridge and Cannon about 8 a.m. Friday.
"This person was found this morning by somebody in the alley. He was lying face down in the alley. They called for paramedics and they discovered he was dead in the alley," Spokane Police major crimes detective Sergeant Mark Griffiths said.
Residents in the neighborhood, hard hit by car prowlings, report hearing shots about 4:30 a.m. Crime scene technicians, however, did not find any shell casings in the alley, so either the victim was shot with a revolver or he was killed somewhere else and his body dumped where it was found.
Spokane's medical examiner took the temperature of the victim's internal organs to help detectives determine his time of death. The man was apparently killed while it was still dark because a woman who lives in the neighborhood thinks she inadvertently ran over the victim while heading to work.
"We're still looking into that. We believe at least one of the vehicles would have been an accident with the person involved," Griffiths said.
While the medical examiner has not identified the victim officially, detectives think they know who he is and that he has a criminal history. Now they're trying to figure out what he was doing and who he was with the last hours he was alive.
"Several major crimes detectives investigating the scene and following up to see where this person was last night and who was with him last and how he ended up here," Griffiths said.
As of 4 p.m. Friday detectives do not have any suspects or persons of interest.
