Ada County early voting sees record turnout

BOISE, Idaho -

Elections officials in Ada County in southwestern Idaho say a record number of people cast ballots in early voting at the Elections Office on Benjamin Lane in Boise.

Officials tell the Idaho Statesman that 19,723 people voted by the early voting deadline at 5 p.m. Friday.

Chief Deputy Clerk Phil McGrane says that surpasses the previous Ada County record set in the 2008 presidential election when 15,741 people voted early.

Besides the early voters, elections officials say another 33,789 Ada County residents been have mailed absentee ballots.

So far, the county has received 24,914 back. Officials say to be counted the rest must be physically in the Elections Office by 8 p.m. Tuesday when polls close.
