Mark Wahlberg, the younger brother of New Kids on the Block star Donnie Wahlberg, started out as a rap star with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.
After his hip-hop stint with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, Wahlberg began his acting career.
His first movie role was in “Renaissance Man,” starring Danny DeVito.
He then played in “The Basketball Diaries” in 1995 before playing a stalker in “Fear” in 1996.
Wahlberg went on to play Dirk Diggler, a trouble porn star, in “Boogie Nights” in 1997. That role served as a turning point in his acting career.
He went on to co-star with George Clooney in “Three Kings” in 1999 …
... and then again in “The Perfect Storm” in 2000.
He played in the blockbuster “Planet of the Apes” in 2001 and played in the indie hit “I Heart Huckabees” in 2004.
He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “The Departed” in 2006.
Wahlberg portrayed Vince Papale – a 30-year-old bartender who ends up playing for the Philadelphia Eagles -- in 2006’s “Invincible.”
He went on to star in movies including “The Happening” and “Max Payne.”
Wahlberg played the father of a murdered girl in “The Lovely Bones” in 2009.
In 2010 he received rave reviews for his role in “The Fighter.”
He went on to appear in the action thriller “Contraband” in 2012.
Wahlberg showed off his comedic side in the 2012 hit “Ted,” where he played a man whose best friend was a live stuffed bear.
In 2014, Wahlberg played Marcus Luttrell in "Lone Survivor," which tells the story of a failed mission by SEAL Team 10.
In 2016 he opened up the year with "Daddy's Home."
